Dasi Mantri Mata Rambha Lakshmi and Dharitri - The roles

Today I wish to talk about the shloka "Karyeshu Dasi, Karaneshu Mantri, Bhojyeshu Mata, Shayaneshu Rambha, Roopeshu Lakshmi, Kshamayeshu Dharitri, Shath dharma yuktah, kula dharma patni" There have been many interpretations of this shloka. The most accepted one is "a woman who works like a servant, advises like a minister, feeds you like a mother, pleases you in bed like sylph (a beautiful goddess), is the embodiment of goddess lakshmi, forgives you with patience as that of mother Earth, that woman who possesses these six virtues is your true wife who can share the dharma of you and your family". So, is this the interpretation? But this makes no woman eligible to be a wife. Not every woman is sylphlike, not every woman possesses intelligence enough to advise you, not every woman can please you in bed, not every woman can dress up and prance around in anklets, not every woman can forgive your monumental mistakes and definitely not every woman can feed you unle...

Live and Give Life

I read a story sometime ago, about how two old men in an infirmary give company to each other and one of them uses his imagination to enliven their lives. The story goes like this. " Two old men, who were almost confined to their beds in an infirmary, occupied adjacent stalls. One man had a wall beside his bed, while the other had a huge glass window beside his bed. Both of them struck a friendship and would spend most of their time talking through the curtain that separated them.  The old man beside the wall, George, would almost all the time talk about how much he missed his family and especially his grandchildren. He would sometimes be profoundly sad and would lapse into long moments of silence. But the one beside the window, William, was ever so cheerful. He would talk about his family and grandchildren with cheery reminiscence and would tell George various anecdotes about his family. But mostly he would describe what was going outside of the window beside his bed. Willi...

Should I tell him, or Should I not

Should I tell him Or should I not.. That every day when I see him I try not to blink my eyes I notice nothing else but him I don't notice how time flies Should I tell him Or should I not.. That every noon when I see him I sit a little away beside his place I listen to his happy laughs I listen to all what he says Should I tell him Or should I not.. That every dusk as he walks I stalk him from a little far I follow like a shadow behind Hey, everything's fair in love and war Should I tell him Or should I not.. That every night I dream of him I feel his warm smile for me I feel his loving embrace How I wish together can we be Should I tell him Or should I not.. That irrevocably and irresistibly With him I have fallen in love And every passing minute I hope That he loves me too somehow Should I tell him Or should I not..

Little Girl With Big Dreams

Image
She wanted to fly without any wings and play on the whispy cloudy swings higher and higher till she reached the starry skies unbound and unencumbered by any of the earthly strings She wanted to paint with invisible colours To draw bejewelled trees and pearly flowers And everything that was in her imaginary world castles made of gummy bears and candied towers She wanted to race across the frothy seas chasing away the porpoises and the wild geese and sink into the deep blue watery depths to munch on spaghetti kelp and sponge cheese She wanted to swim in the sandy dunes Dancing to the snake charmer's exotic tunes and search in the never ending mirages for the magical cave and the genie with boons She wanted to explore the unknown realms and trip over the end - of - the - world seams to discover herself all over again everyday because Hey! She is just a little girl with big dreams

In Celebration of Being Alive (Full Story)

In Celebration of Being Alive By Dr. Christiaan Barnard More and more, as I near the end of my career as a heart surgeon, my thoughts have turned to the consideration of why people should suffer. Suffering seems so cruelly prevalent in the world today. Do you know that of the 125 million children born this year, 12 million are unlikely to reach the age of one and another six million will die before age of five? And, of the rest, many will end up as mental or physical cripples. My gloomy thoughts probably stem from an accident I had few years ago. One minute I was crossing the street with my wife after a lovely meal together, and the next minute a car hit me and knocked me into my wife. She was thrown into the other lane and stuck by a car coming from the opposite direction. During the next few days in the hospital I experienced not only agony and fear but also anger. I could not understand why my wife and I had to suffer. I had eleven broken ribs and a perforated lung. My wife ...

Retirement

We enter the world crying, but smile at mother's love, and slowly we learn to rejoice, and count the blessings from above. We cry on first day to school, we don't let go of parents hand, but then we make friends, and they become our own band. We work hard to get to college, the education for bright future, tears and tantrums and exams, ending in the success we capture. We land in a job that feeds us, it makes us both happy and sad, but it gives us a sense of achievemnt, a triumph over the good and bad. Then too soon it is that time, when life tells you to start over, yes it is the retirement time, when time starts to go slower. Life gives you more time now, to catch up with what you missed, to play and bounce with your kids, and your wife waiting to be kissed. There's time now to bring back, those hobbies that you left half way, those vacations that you planned, on the beachy shores of the bay. Retirement is just a reminder, that life has been w...

I want those days back

I want those days back When I laughed with my heart And friends made promises To never let go, never be apart When I could play all the day With not a worry in my mind When I could hide anywhere Yet my friends would find I want those days back When I could smile and win When nothing was difficult And enemity faded with a grin When I could eat with greed Yet could always share anything I could be just as choosy Yet accept all and every thing I want those days back When I could hug and cry When it was alright to lose And I was encouraged to try When the day started lazy and The night came without a hurry When change would bring tears Yet the past was easy to bury I want those days back When I could be more me When I could talk like me And I could live like me I want those days back...
